I’ve always had a love for interior design. I constantly changed things around in my parent’s home. Straightening out rugs, arranging picture frames and moving furniture came naturally to me. However, it was not until I had children and became a stay-at-home mom that I realized how important it is to enjoy the space I now call my office.
I began following a few of my favorites designers on Instagram and, before I knew it, I was posting pictures of my own home in the hopes of inspiring others. Then, I was asked by several acquaintances to style their homes and just like that, my styling journey began.
I find inspiration everywhere: fellow stylists and designers, design books, nature, different cultures and my family. I use these various forms of inspiration in my own home and when I’m designing for others.
I abide by one simple rule: “I don’t design for designers. I design for real people.”
I enjoy working with what people already own; rethinking how pieces are placed to create a new look in an existing space. Like myself, my clients are on a budget, and it’s just as easy to design an inviting haven without breaking the bank.
Watching trends ebb and flow is another fun aspect of my job. The major trend I continue to observe, and that I follow myself, is mixing different textures. By adhering to a cohesive color palette and incorporating varying textures, you’ll add depth and interest to your space.
Designing an entire room and giving clients the opportunity to see our vision come to fruition is such a thrill. I also love the challenge of styling vignettes, specifically open shelving. This can take a lot of editing, but the end result is always incredibly rewarding.
As for my own style, I’m drawn to simplicity, clean lines and rustic modern furnishings. I like to use textiles, including pillows, throws and cushions, as they’re usually the most cost-effective way to change a room’s vibe.
I frequently mix unique items from small businesses and big retailers alike. When I collaborate with small businesses, I always appreciate the distinct character their pieces add to my home.
Although my family leads a very simple life, we love to travel. My husband and I recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary aboard a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean, and we had the time of our lives. But nothing will ever top the feeling of coming home.
